Its National Bread week this week in the United Kingdom, as this event celebrates its successful twelfth year. The purpose of National Bread Week, as if we need any more persuading, is to celebrate the ‘roll’ that bread plays in our daily diet, (pardon the pun!).  The organisers and sponsors wish to promote the nutritional benefits of bread in our diet and to raise awareness of a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle. With activities happening all over the country, bakers large and small are gearing up for a rise in production to meet the increased demand.

Bread has played an important part of our daily diet for centuries. Evidence suggests it all started in the Stone Age, over five thousand years ago, and evolved during the Middle Ages until now. Anyone who is a fan of the Great British Bake off will recognise the name Paul Hollywood, as a great instiller of the virtue of home-made bread. In fact one of his recipes for rye bread dates back to the Saxon era. However it is in the commercial kitchens and bakeries I draw my interest from.

Commercial catering companies have an army of bread trolleys that are constantly in and out of bread ovens, hundreds of times a day, moving on heat resistant castors and high temperature wheels. With bread playing such an important part of our everyday diet, commercial bakers are running twenty four hours a day to meet demand. Such continual movement places a huge importance on the quality of the trolley wheels and heat resistant castors. Failure on the manoeuvrability of the high temperature castors can hold up production, and as they always say, ‘time is money’.

In order to meet the strict requirements of commercial baking, and health and safety, many bakeries opt for quality castors, with either a termotex wheel, or a temperature resistant rubber wheel. These high temperature castors are durable, sturdy, but with the high demands placed upon them in commercial ovens, they may need to be replaced on a three month cycle. Stainless steel castors offer a protection against harsh cleaning chemicals and water, to ensure the longevity of bakery trolleys. With a cycle of castor replacement, bakery oven trolleys really do run a marathon every day, as they remain in constant motion.

The promotion of bread as a healthy option has been tarnished in the past with the rise of the anti-carbohydrate diets, however Bread supporters argue that a medium slice of bread contains just ninety four calories, and is a suitable and nutritious option for the health conscious.  With commercial bakers gearing up for National Bread Week, ensuring all their bread trolleys have suitable temperature resistant castors, that are fit for purpose, the Bread week looks to be another success.  For a range of high temperature castors and wheels, we have a large selection to choose from to suit your needs. And as the Great British Bake off says, ‘Ready, Steady, Lets Bake!’
