Melia Design UK battles the elements with Ross Handling

For their EcoFloodgate to work Melia Design needed strong, steel piping to reinforce the gates, which could be cut to size and would withstand the elements and floodwater. With an idea in mind Managing Director, John-Paul Melia, approached Ross Handling for a solution. 

After unfortunate weather left their Hebden Bridge workshop flooded, West Yorkshire furniture design specialists Melia Design UK, began working on an eco-friendly floodgate as part of their ‘funky and retro’ outdoor range.

For their EcoFloodgate to work Melia Design needed strong, steel piping to reinforce the gates, which could be cut to size and would withstand the elements and floodwater. With an idea in mind Managing Director, John-Paul Melia, approached Ross Handling for a solution.

Made from 100% recycled plastic sheeting, Melia’s eco-friendly, effective and affordable EcoFloodgates are an inexpensive and made-to-measure alternative to other high street brands. Ross Handling’s 3m long square steel piping and tube inserts are used as a weatherproof, hard wearing support which is bolted to the back to avoid any bowing or breaking.

John continues: “Almost immediately the floodgates were popular and with the current demand we are already looking at getting the next batch in!”
