Description

This castor is constructed from AISI 316 marine-grade stainless steel, combining superior corrosion resistance with durable wheel performance — designed to provide reliable mobility in the most demanding, corrosive or hygiene-critical environments. 316-grade stainless steel includes molybdenum to resist pitting and crevice corrosion, making it significantly more resistant than standard 304-grade in chloride-rich, wet, chemical-exposed or marine conditions.

This makes the 316 castor ideal for applications in marine, chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, medical, wash-down, clean-room, coastal or offshore environments where rust, salt spray or chemical exposure are concerns.

Key Features

  • AISI 316 stainless steel housing — enhanced corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides, salt, acids and chemicals

  • Marine-grade castor construction — able to withstand salt-water, coastal, offshore or aggressive chemical exposure while maintaining structural integrity

  • Durable wheel options (e.g. nylon or other compatible treads) for smooth, reliable rolling under load

  • Swivel or fixed configurations depending on requirement — suitable for trolleys, equipment racks, processing lines or mobile workstations

  • Stainless-steel ball/roller bearings and sealed swivel head (where specified) to resist corrosion and moisture ingress — ensuring long service life in wet or wash-down environments

Applications / Industries & Environments

This 316-grade stainless steel castor is particularly well-suited for:

  • Marine and offshore equipment, boats, docks or coastal facilities — where saltwater corrosion is a major risk

  • Chemical processing plants, labs or industrial plants using corrosive chemicals or exposed to acids, solvents or chlorides

  • Food processing, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical industries — hygiene-critical, wash-down required, corrosion-prone environments

  • Medical equipment, clean-room trolleys, hospital carts — where corrosion resistance and easy cleaning are essential

  • Coastal warehouses, storage racks or material-handling equipment subject to salt air or damp conditions

  • Any industrial workshop or factory environment where high corrosion resistance and long-term durability under harsh conditions are required

Why Use a 316-Grade Castor (Why Choose Ross Handling 316 Range)

  • 316 stainless steel alloy includes molybdenum — this gives greater resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to standard 304, especially in chloride-rich, acidic or chemical-laden environments.

  • The marine-grade build ensures the castor remains durable and safe even under saltwater, chemical exposure or frequent wash-downs — reducing maintenance, replacement costs and risk of failure.

  • The corrosion resistance and hygiene compliance make 316 castors ideal for food, medical, laboratory and pharmaceutical environments, where contamination risk and rusting must be minimised.

  • For heavy-duty or frequent-use scenarios in harsh environments, 316-grade castors offer long-term reliability, making them a sound investment.
